Toulouse
located in the Midi-Pyrénées region in the south-west is France’s
fourth largest city. Locals lovingly call it "The Pink City" because of
the colour of its handsome classic facades. It's the home of Airbus and
hordes of other hi-tech companies too. Galileo, the global positioning
system has its headquarters there, along with enough other key aviation
and IT businesses which earns it the nickname ‘Aerospace Alley’. It’s
also one of Europe’s most vibrant shopping cities, with a mix of trendy
boutiques, fashionable big stores and ultra-modern malls. Famous for its
fois-gras, Toulouse sausage and gastronomy it's a fantastic destination
for a real "art de vivre" city break,
The Midi-Pyrénées region is home to the beautiful towns of Albi and more famously Lourdes. With lovely scenery, outdoor activities, picturesque villages and historic towns, the extensive Midi-Pyrenees region of southern France has something for everyone! Aveyron has more villages classified among the 'most beautiful villages of France' than any other French department, Don't miss a visit to the Millau Bridge (officially Millau Viaduct) This is a road-bridge spanning the valley of the River Tarn near Millau in southern France. It was designed by the renowned 'modern architect' Norman Foster, working with French engineer Michel Virlogeux. Among other remarkable features it is the tallest vehicle bridge in the world. The highest pier has a height falling between that of the Eiffel Tower and the Empire State Building. It is recommended to visit the information site on the north side of the bridge, where you can get a historical perspective of the build, but also take the opportunity to walk up to a viewing point high above the bridge itself where you can get some spectacular photos. Be advised that there is a long and steep flight of steps to navigate to get up there but it's worth the climb. Sites to visit for getting to Toulouse & Midi-Pyrénées
